Wonder Woman has become one of the biggest movies made by DCEU yet. It quickly became a hit in the box office. Although, Wonder Woman has had a long road to its big success and people who’ve turned down the role. One of the people who turned down the role was Kate Beckinsale. The Underworld actress turned down the role because she felt that it didn’t resemble the current Diana.
“But the incarnations that I was seeing were…They weren’t this one [the 2017 film].:” (Kate Beckinsale to Yahoo! Movies in an interview)
Another reason why she did not want to play Wonder Woman at the time was because she didn’t want to embarrass her kids.
“I don’t know if I was desperate to be in a leotard. I’d already done the rubber trousers. You have to take in that you have a child at some point and how much could you possibly embarrass them.”
Many people have tried to make successful Wonder Woman movies before DCEU came to be. To say that Kate Beckinsale missed out on the role at the time isn’t that true. If she played the role in the early 2000s, it wouldn’t be the role that Patty Jenkins and Gal Gadot created. Although Kate Beckinsale would have made a good Wonder Woman, the movie industry didn’t have the right version for Wonder Woman yet.
